We said it before and we’ll say it again: any way you slice it, your summertime BBQ is incomplete without watermelon. And as we approach those dog days of summer where the heat is too oppressive to travel any farther than the fridge for another drink, we prefer our watermelon blended with plenty of ice, booze and fresh herbs.
This frozen watermelon slushie is cheap, easy, potent, and – most importantly in July and August – ice cold and as refreshing as it gets, thanks to a mix of watermelon, lemonade and fresh mint.
Check out the photos below for a step-by-step guide on how to make these watermelon rum lemonade slushies. And one final protip: for an extra cold slushie, use refrigerated lemonade and cut up your watermelon into chunks and throw it into the freezer beforehand.
- 4 cups frozen seeded (or seedless) watermelon, cubed
- 2 cups lemonade, plus more if needed
- 4 ounces rum (optional)
- 1 cup crushed ice
- 4–8 fresh mint sprigs
- 4 lemon wheels, 1/4-inch thick
