Kick off BBQ season with these honey pecan baby back ribs

If you happen to be in the Northeast today to experience the entire population lose it’s collective mind over the fact spring has FINALLY arrived, chances are you’re gonna be hitting a barbecue. And if you’re not, well, you’re doing it wrong.

There’s nothing quite like turning a rack of ribs cooking over a bed of hot charcoals while sipping a cold beer to welcome the changing of the season. And this recipe for honey pecan baby back ribs is a great recipe to kick things off with.

For starters, you probably have most of the ingredients in your cupboard. The honey and BBQ sauce create a tangy sweetness that’s encased in pecan rub to add some crunch to the tender meat.

The best part is most of the work is done in the oven beforehand, so you can take these to a cookout nearly ready to go, throw them on the grill for six minutes and blow people’s minds right after your arrival.

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds baby back pork ribs, cut into 4 to 5 rib racks
  • 2/3 cup honey, divided
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • As needed vegetable oil cooking spray
  • 1 cup toasted pecans, ground finely
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 (18-ounce) bottle prepared barbecue sauce
  • As needed toasted pecans, for sprinkling on finished ribs
  • In a small bowl, combine 1/3 cup honey, pepper, paprika, salt and garlic powder. Rub both sides of each rack with 1 tablespoon of the mixture, divided evenly.

Preparation

  • 1 Preheat grill to 300° F or medium heat.
  • 2 Lay each rack of ribs on a large piece of foil.
  • 3 Wrap foil around racks to form packets. Place foil packets seam-side up on grill rack and put down the cover and bake on the grill about 1 1/2 hours. Remove ribs from the grill, spray grill racks with vegetable oil spray and fire up the grill up to medium-high.
  • 4 Remove ribs from the grill, spray grill racks with vegetable oil spray and fire up the grill up to medium-high.
  • 5 Combine pecans and flour. Remove rib racks from foil and press pecan mixture onto meaty side of each rack.
  • 6 Grill each rib rack over medium heat 2 to 3 minutes, starting with the bare side and brushing on more sauce as desired. Turn and baste the ribs until they are caramelized.
  • 7 Sprinkle with additional toasted chopped pecans and extra honey barbecue sauce and serve.
