It’s Martin Luther King Day, which, for many of us, means the last four-day weekend until spring (if you’re one of those people who gets Presidents’ Day off, kindly never speak to us again), and for all of us means there are way too many weeks of winter left, no matter what the groundhog says.
While we may be months away from sipping a frozen daiquiri in a backyard lounger, there are still plenty of typically summery delights that we can absolutely enjoy right now – chief among them, the margarita. Because winter can take away and our tans and our bikini bodies, but it can’t take away our freedom to drink margaritas whenever we damn well please.
If you’re normally one of those people who waits until the temperatures reach humane levels as an excuse to make margaritas, we’ve got plenty of other reasons you can use: Football playoffs. Pretending it’s summer. Celebrate having Presidents’ Day off. Mourn the fact that you don’t have Presidents’ Day off. Because they’re just delicious and take literally less than one minute to make, so you don’t need any excuses, OK?
Of all the real cocktails out there (and no, vodka cranberry and rum and coke don’t count as cocktails – not even if you call them Cape Codders and Cuba libres), the margarita has to be the easiest to make. Just shake up some tequila, agave syrup, and lime, and bam, you’re halfway to summer.
